India’s Defence System

the President, because the latter represents the civil power.

Maintain public security, supply of milk, water and other essential services during riots or strikes, to regulate traffic, to help people at the time of natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, etc.

All the three wings of defense force are pivotal for protection of the nation’s security. Indian Army is the seventh largest army in the world.

Atoms for Peace was a program run by US to supply information and equipment’s in schools, hospitals etc. within USA and throughout the world.

The ideology behind the clause was to create an Agency or treaty that to promote, safe, secure and peaceful nuclear technology.

The threats to the national security are:

a. Terrorism: It is the biggest threat to a nation because the main victim of terrorism are the common people and the children

b. Naxalism: It is an internal threat caused due to rebellious group within a nation. Even they disrupt the normalcy of the nation.

c. Inter Country War: In past World War I and World War II occurred that caused a lot of disruption.

The Border Security Force performs tasks like creating a sense of security in

the minds of people living in areas near the border, preventing smuggling, patrolling the border, etc.

1. India’s two neighbors Pakistan and China have been threatening India’s security since Independence. The border dispute with China over Arunachal is very long. Similarly, there are several issues with Pakistan like Kashmir issue, Indus water issue, infiltrations etc.

2. India’s security is also challenged internally. Several rebellious movements based on ideology, race-ethnicity and economic inequality are creating instability. The issue of naxalism is biggest threat among it.

3. Terrorism has threatened the entire world and consequently to India too. The events like Mumbai attack represent the similar threats.
