• Sir M. Visveswaraiah’s contribution was also very remarkable in the development of industries.

• Britishers and King of Mysore also took a keen interest in the development of industries.

• The industrial policy of the central government after independence also enable industrial development.

The distribution of the cotton textile industry in Karnataka-

• The cotton textile industry is one of the modern industries established in Karnataka.

• In the northern districts of Karnataka modern cotton mills were established along with ginning and spinning mills.

• The first cotton mill was set up in Karnataka in 1884 at Kalaburagi. It was MSK cotton mill.

• The later cotton mill was started in Hubballi.

• After 1900 many big cotton textiles mills were established.

• Before independence many mills were established they were- Binny, Minerva, K.R Mill and Cotton Mill of Davangere.

• Many mills were established n the northern area where cotton was widely grown.

I visited Visveswaraya iron and steel plant it is in the bhadravati district of Karnataka. It is situated at a distance of 225 km from the state capital Bengaluru and about 20 km from the district headquarter shivamogga.

Products produced – producer of alloy and special steel in the country.

It also supplies- spun-pipes, ferro-silicon, cement, mild steel and castings.
