Who is Mr. Lamb? How does Derry get into his garden?
Mr.Lamb is the owner of the garden. Derry gets into his garden slowly and tentatively. He walks and pauses and continues this again.
Do you think all this will change Derry’s attitude towards Mr. Lamb?
Yes, I think this will surely change Derry’s attitude towards Mr.Lamb because I think Mr.Lamb is the first person who made him laugh with his words while others were busy in bullying on feeling sorry for him.
What is it that draws Derry towards Mr. Lamb in spite of himself?
Derry, till then , was thinking that his problem is big enough to make him the unhappiest person in the world. But after hearing to Mr.Lamb , he unknowingly finds his problem to be a tiny one and starts bullying Mr.Lamb. I think that unusual conversation between Derry and Mr.Lamb has drawn him towards Mr.Lamb in spite of himself.
In which section of the play does Mr. Lamb display signs of loneliness and disappointment? What are the ways in which Mr. Lamb tries to overcome these feelings?
Mr.Lamb displays the signs of loneliness when Derry says that he had heard a lot of passive things about Mr.lamb. Mr.Lamb tries to overcome those feelings by hearing the song of those bees in the hive on that tree in his garden.
The actual pain or inconvenience caused by a physical impairment is often much less than the
sense of alienation felt by the person with disabilities. What is the kind of behavior that the person expects from others?
Being with a disability doesn’t mean inhuman. It is, a human with just a small defect. There is no any need of alienation of disabled people. In fact, helping them in improving their abilities, in spite of their disabilities, by acting normally with them would be a great thing to do. That is what they too expect from us.
Will Derry get back to his old seclusion or will Mr. Lamb’s brief association effect a change in the kind of life he will lead in the future?
I think Mr.Lamb’s brief association would bring a change in the life of Derry that he is going to lead in his future. It’s because within a short span of time Mr.Lamb made him comfortable and happy. He has also inculcated in Derry, the desire to work for something instead of thinking about his damaged face. This will surely change Derry’s attitude towards other people and will surely show an effect on his life that he is going to lead in the future.
How about...
using your imagination to suggest another ending to the above story.
This story has a tragic end. Instead of this, I would like to suggest the following climax.
After arguing with his mom Derry comes back to Mr.Lamb’s garden. There he finds Mr.Lamb cutting apples from the trees and other children helping him. He too picks up an apple and puts it in the basket. Slowly he starts speaking with other children and starts playing with them. Finally, when his mom comes there in a hurry, feels happy to see her son playing with those kids forgetting all his troubles.
